In a major crackdown on food safety violations, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has stepped up inspections across the city to ensure compliance with hygiene norms and food safety regulations.
Over the past 15 days, the health department of the civic body conducted inspections at 1,027 food business establishments as part of a special drive aimed at enforcing the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
During the campaign, officials collected 409 samples of various food products for laboratory analysis. The tests revealed quality concerns in several cases, with 27 samples being declared substandard and unfit for human consumption.
Taking strict action against violators, the AMC sealed three food establishments that were found operating under unhygienic conditions and failing to meet mandatory safety standards.
The drive also resulted in the destruction of around 2,089 kg of unhygienic food items and 665 litres of unsafe liquid products. In addition, the civic body imposed administrative penalties on several vendors and recovered more than Rs 5.13 lakh in charges for violations.
AMC officials said the campaign is part of an ongoing effort to safeguard public health and improve food safety standards across the city. They warned food business operators that inspections will continue regularly and that strict action will be taken against anyone found compromising consumer health.
The civic body reiterated its commitment to maintaining high food safety standards and ensuring that citizens have access to safe and hygienic food products.
