Gujarat has become the first state in India to dedicate a public traffic circle to the Indian Coast Guard, with the inauguration of the ‘Bharatiya Tatrakshak Swarn Jayanti Circle’ in Gandhinagar to commemorate the force’s 50th anniversary.
Previously known as CHH-4B Circle, the landmark has been renamed by the state government in recognition of the Indian Coast Guard’s five decades of dedicated service in safeguarding the nation’s maritime interests.
Officials described the inauguration as a significant milestone, noting that it is the first public traffic circle in the country to be dedicated to the Indian Coast Guard.
The newly developed ‘Bharatiya Tatrakshak Swarn Jayanti Circle’ has been designed to showcase the operational strength and core values of the maritime force. At the centre of the installation is a model of an Indian Coast Guard Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV), symbolising maritime security, deterrence and the protection of Gujarat’s coastline and sea borders.
The circle also features replicas of a Dornier surveillance aircraft and an Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH), highlighting the Coast Guard’s aerial surveillance capabilities, rapid response operations and extensive operational reach.
Statues of Coast Guard personnel have been installed to represent the force’s commitment, vigilance and dedication to duty. A digital display wall has also been incorporated into the design, providing visitors with information and visual insights into various Coast Guard missions and activities.
According to officials, the initiative aims to increase public awareness about the Indian Coast Guard and its crucial role in maritime security. The display reinforces the message that the force remains vigilant round the clock, protecting the country’s maritime frontiers and interests.
The Gujarat government said the project reflects its commitment to recognising the contributions of security forces that work tirelessly to safeguard the nation’s coastal and maritime boundaries.
The landmark is expected to serve as a permanent source of inspiration and public awareness, showcasing the Indian Coast Guard’s contributions to coastal security, environmental conservation, humanitarian assistance and nation-building.
Officials added that the memorial stands as a tribute to the unwavering dedication of Coast Guard personnel and seeks to foster greater appreciation among citizens for the force’s role in protecting India’s maritime domain.
