As part of preparations to strengthen Ahmedabad’s sporting infrastructure and support its aspirations of hosting future international events such as the Commonwealth Games, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has proposed the construction of a state-of-the-art integrated sports complex in the Bhadaj area of Thaltej ward.
The civic body has invited bids for the project, which is estimated to cost ₹82.60 crore.
Modern Facilities for Multiple Sports
The proposed complex will cater to a wide range of indoor and outdoor sports while also offering recreational and fitness facilities.
The indoor sports block will feature a four-court multipurpose hall for basketball, volleyball and badminton, along with a separate multi-sport arena for disciplines such as wrestling, kabaddi, taekwondo and table tennis.
A dedicated 10-metre indoor shooting range with 20 targets for air rifle and air pistol practice will also be developed.
Outdoor facilities will include tennis, basketball and volleyball courts, as well as eight pickleball courts.
The complex will further house a digital gaming room, yoga and aerobics centre, and recreational facilities for chess, carrom, snooker and billiards.
Facilities for Athletes and Visitors
The sports complex will include player lounges with changing rooms and lockers, coach cabins, referee rooms, media rooms, a first-aid centre and a medical service station.
Training rooms equipped with audio-visual facilities will also be provided to support athlete development.
Administrative infrastructure will include office spaces, cabins, a VIP lounge, waiting areas and a spacious double-height entrance lobby. Visitors and athletes will have access to a cafeteria, juice bar and nutrition centre.
Sustainable and International-Standard Design
The project will also include basement parking, equipment storage facilities, technical service rooms and accessibility features for persons with disabilities.
According to AMC, the complex will be designed in accordance with international standards prescribed by bodies such as the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
The civic body is also targeting a Platinum rating under green building certification systems such as GRIHA and the Indian Green Building Council, ensuring the facility remains energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable.
Construction is expected to be completed within 18 months, excluding the monsoon period, after the work order is issued.
