The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall and thundershowers in parts of Gujarat over the coming week. However, rainfall activity is expected to remain largely restricted to South Gujarat until June 11.
According to the IMD’s seven-day forecast, isolated showers are likely in the districts of Dang, Tapi, Navsari and Valsad, as well as in Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman, between June 8 and June 10. Most areas of North Gujarat, Saurashtra-Kutch and Diu are expected to remain dry during this period.
On June 11, rainfall activity is likely to extend to Chhota Udepur, Narmada and Surat districts.
From June 12 onwards, the rain-bearing weather system is expected to spread further across the state. Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are forecast at isolated places in Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari and Valsad districts. Similar conditions are also expected in eastern Gujarat districts including Panchmahal, Dahod and Mahisagar.
Parts of Saurashtra, including Amreli, Bhavnagar and Gir Somnath, may also receive isolated showers on June 12.
On June 13 and 14, rainfall activity is expected to become more widespread, with isolated showers likely across South Gujarat, parts of central Gujarat including Aravalli, Panchmahal, Dahod and Mahisagar, and Saurashtra districts such as Porbandar, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar and Gir Somnath. Diu may also receive light rainfall during this period.
Despite the expected showers, the IMD has not issued any weather warning for Gujarat over the next seven days, indicating that heavy rainfall is not likely during this period.
Meanwhile, temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged. Ahmedabad and Rajkot recorded the state’s highest maximum temperature of 41.9°C on Sunday. Ahmedabad is likely to witness a partly cloudy sky, with daytime temperatures hovering around 42°C.
The IMD has also noted further advancement of the southwest monsoon over parts of the Arabian Sea and several states in western and southern India. Conditions remain favourable for its continued progress over the next few days, raising the possibility of the monsoon reaching Gujarat around June 15.
