Schools across Gujarat reopened on Monday after a 35-day summer vacation, ushering in the 2026-27 academic year for more than 1.15 crore students. Over 54,000 government, grant-in-aid and private schools across the state welcomed students back to classrooms as regular academic activities resumed.
The first day of the new session was marked by festive celebrations at many schools, with students receiving a warm welcome through tilak ceremonies, flowers, cultural programmes and other special activities organized by school authorities.
The summer vacation was observed from May 4 to June 7, providing students with a break of over a month before the start of the new academic year.
According to the academic calendar issued by the state Education Department, the first semester will consist of 120 teaching days, while the second semester will have 124 teaching days.
Overall, the 2026-27 academic session will comprise 244 teaching days. Students will also receive 121 holidays during the year, including Sundays, public holidays and vacation periods.
With classrooms once again buzzing with activity, schools across Gujarat have begun the new academic year with a focus on learning, student engagement and academic preparedness.
