A resident of Bopal has alleged that a vegetarian burger ordered through an online food delivery platform was mistakenly delivered as a non-vegetarian item, leading to a dispute with the management of a McDonald’s outlet in the area.
According to the customer, the order was placed for a vegetarian burger through a food delivery application from the McDonald’s outlet in Bopal. However, upon opening the package, the customer allegedly discovered that a non-vegetarian burger had been delivered instead.
The customer later visited the restaurant to report the issue and seek clarification. However, the complainant claimed that the outlet staff behaved discourteously and failed to resolve the matter satisfactorily. The customer also alleged that restaurant representatives were unwilling to acknowledge the alleged error despite being informed about the mix-up.
It remains unclear whether a formal complaint has been lodged with consumer protection authorities or food safety regulators regarding the incident.
Responding to the allegations, McDonald’s India said its restaurants follow strict protocols to maintain complete separation between vegetarian and non-vegetarian food items.
“Our kitchens follow strict segregation practices for vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, with separate sections, dedicated equipment, and trained teams adhering to stringent hygiene standards. Our restaurant teams are also trained to engage with customers in a courteous and professional manner, and we remain fully committed to upholding these standards across all our operations,” the company said in a statement.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the importance of accurate order fulfilment and quality-control measures in the rapidly growing online food delivery sector, particularly for customers with specific dietary preferences and religious sensitivities.
