Senior Gujarat-cadre IPS officer Rajiv Ranjan Bhagat has been appointed as Additional Director General (ADG) in the Special Protection Group (SPG), following approval by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), the appointment was cleared based on a proposal submitted by the Office of the Secretary (Security) under the Cabinet Secretariat. A 1998-batch IPS officer of the Gujarat cadre, Bhagat will serve in the post until May 20, 2027.
The order stated that the position currently held by Bhagat has been temporarily upgraded to the rank of ADG as a personal measure to facilitate his appointment in the elite security organisation.
Bhagat is among the senior-most IPS officers of the Gujarat cadre and has held several important assignments in both the state and central governments during his distinguished career.
He has been on central deputation since May 2018 and has been serving with the Special Protection Group, the elite force entrusted with the security of the Prime Minister and other designated high-risk dignitaries.
His elevation to the rank of Additional Director General is being viewed as recognition of his extensive experience and contribution to the country’s highest-level security apparatus.
