For most students, a lucrative placement offer marks the culmination of years of hard work. For 22-year-old Vashita Darji from Anand, however, her Rs 53.4 lakh-per-annum offer from Microsoft represents a journey shaped by determination, opportunity and support that stretched across continents.
A BTech student at Nirma University’s Institute of Technology, Vashita was raised in a middle-class family in Anand. Her father, Viral Darji, a physics graduate who runs a colour business, and her mother played a crucial role in nurturing her ambitions. Despite limited resources, her parents consistently encouraged her to pursue her goals without hesitation.
A defining chapter in her life began during the 2019-20 Youth Exchange and Study (YES) programme, which took her to the United States as a high-school exchange student. What started as an educational experience evolved into a lasting relationship with her American host family, who remained closely connected with her even after she returned to India.
When financial constraints emerged during her engineering studies, the host family stepped forward and helped support her education. “I am deeply grateful to my US host family for their continuous support and kindness,” Vashita says. “Their support in helping me pay my college fees has played a very important role in my educational journey, and I will always remain thankful for their generosity.”
At Nirma University, Vashita received guidance and encouragement from faculty members, particularly Dr Himanshu Soni, who provided her with the flexibility to explore international academic and leadership opportunities. In 2026, she also participated in the UUTI Camp, an international leadership programme that helped sharpen her skills and broaden her global outlook.
Years of perseverance, academic excellence and unwavering support ultimately paid off when Vashita secured a placement offer from Microsoft worth Rs 53.4 lakh per annum, turning her inspiring journey into a remarkable success story.
