The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation will hold its general body meeting on May 26 to elect the city’s new mayor, deputy mayor and standing committee chairman.
Councillors Hitesh Barot and Dharamshi Desai are among the frontrunners for the mayor’s post, which has been reserved for a male OBC councillor for a term of two-and-a-half years.
Other names being considered for the mayoral role include Jashubhai Thakor, a former chairman of the health and solid waste management committee, and Rajesh Thakor, who is serving his second term and has earlier worked as AMC whip.For the standing committee chairman’s post, Jainik Vakil is being considered along with outgoing chairman Devang Dani.
Other names under discussion include Ketan Patel, Paresh Patel and Paresh Lakhani.The deputy mayor’s post is likely to go to a woman councillor, with Dr Chandni Patel emerging as a strong contender.
