In a relief for commuters, Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation has reduced bus fares on select intercity routes operating through newly opened expressways, making travel between major Gujarat cities more affordable.
The recently operational Vadodara–Surat–Navsari expressway, part of the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway, has improved connectivity between Ahmedabad and Navsari. Similarly, the Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway has enabled faster travel between Ahmedabad and Bhavnagar.
GSRTC has shifted several buses to these new expressway routes, which officials say have lowered operational costs and improved travel efficiency. The benefit is now being passed on to passengers through reduced ticket fares.
Under the revised fare structure, passengers travelling on the Ahmedabad–Bhavnagar route via the Dholera Expressway will now pay ₹337 instead of ₹351, resulting in a fare reduction of ₹14.
Similarly, passengers travelling from Nehrunagar in Ahmedabad to Surat will now pay ₹687 instead of ₹748, benefiting from a fare cut of ₹61 due to the new expressway connectivity.
The fare revision comes as public transport authorities attempt to make intercity travel more economical amid rising fuel costs. Officials said the improved highway infrastructure and introduction of faster express routes have helped reduce travel time and operational expenses.
