The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has admitted that mistakes during the evaluation process are possible, especially given the large number of answer sheets assessed each year. In response to growing concerns from students over discrepancies in Class 12 results and the use of the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, the board has introduced a more transparent post-result process. Students can now access scanned copies of their evaluated answer sheets and apply for verification or re-evaluation within the prescribed schedule.
CBSE has also reduced the fees for these post-result services to make them more affordable for students. Scanned copies of answer sheets and verification of marks will now cost Rs 100 each, significantly lower than the earlier charges. Officials said the decision was taken to ensure greater transparency and to give students a fair opportunity to review their evaluated papers if they suspect any errors in marking or calculation.
The development has triggered fresh discussions among students, parents, and education experts about the reliability of the current board exam evaluation system. While the Ministry of Education has defended the OSM method as a globally accepted and transparent evaluation practice, many students have demanded better accountability and reforms in the assessment process. The debate has once again highlighted the need for a broader overhaul of board exam evaluations to improve accuracy, transparency, and student confidence in the system.
