The Gujarat education department has approved Rs 330 crore under the 2026-27 budget to strengthen school infrastructure across the state, including the construction of more than 100 new government schools. The initiative aims to improve educational facilities in non-tribal, tribal and special focus areas.
Under the approved plan, new school buildings, compound walls and repair works will be carried out in several districts. In Ahmedabad Rural, 14 new schools will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 44.8 crore. Following administrative approval, the education department will begin the construction process.
According to the official resolution, the total allocation has been divided into three categories — Rs 210 crore for non-tribal areas, Rs 80 crore for tribal regions and Rs 40 crore for special focus areas.
A total of 108 new schools will be built across Gujarat, including 69 in non-tribal areas, 17 in tribal regions and 22 in special focus zones. Districts such as Ahmedabad, Banaskantha, Bharuch, Bhavnagar and Kutch are among those expected to benefit from the project.
The government has also allocated funds for infrastructure development worth Rs 99.2 crore in tribal areas and Rs 70.4 crore in special focus regions.
In addition, compound walls will be constructed in 108 schools, while repair work will be undertaken in 21 schools.
The state government has issued strict guidelines for the projects, directing that all construction work follow PWD standards and safety norms prescribed by the Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA). Authorities have also warned that approvals may be withdrawn if projects are not completed within the specified timeline.
