Commuters travelling on Ahmedabad’s busy S.G. Highway may soon get major relief as the six-lane elevated corridor between ISKCON and Sanand Circle is expected to open by July 15, 2026.
The 4-km-long elevated bridge, being constructed by the National Highways Authority of India, is aimed at reducing congestion on one of the city’s busiest traffic stretches. Officials estimate that around 1.5 lakh vehicles will use the corridor daily, helping ease traffic jams and cut travel time.
Major junctions expected to see smoother traffic
Once operational, the project is expected to significantly reduce congestion at key junctions such as YMCA, Karnavati Club and Prahladnagar Circle. Vehicles travelling on the S.G. Highway will be able to bypass traffic signals by moving directly over these intersections.
Authorities have also planned dedicated entry and exit ramps for local commuters accessing nearby areas.
Project cost rises to Rs 530 crore
According to NHAI officials, the project was initially awarded at a cost of Rs 385 crore, but the total expenditure is now expected to reach nearly Rs 530 crore.
The corridor has been designed using a single-pier elevated structure supported by central pillars, helping optimise space on the heavily used highway stretch.

YMCA–Karnavati Club road to reopen by May-end
The road between YMCA and Karnavati Club, which had remained closed for several months due to construction work, is likely to reopen by May 31, according to NHAI. The reopening is expected to provide immediate relief to motorists currently facing diversions.
Entry and exit ramps to be completed later
While the main elevated stretch is targeted for opening in July, officials said the construction of boarding and exit ramps is likely to continue until September 15. Once completed, local traffic flow and accessibility are expected to improve further.
The ISKCON–Sanand elevated corridor is being seen as one of Ahmedabad’s major urban infrastructure projects aimed at easing congestion in the rapidly growing western part of the city.
