The Gujarat Technological University (GTU) has introduced a new academic framework for its four-year Bachelor of Science (BSc) Honours and Honours with Research programmes, making an 8.0 CGPA and a backlog-free academic record mandatory for students wishing to continue after the third year.
According to guidelines issued by the university on Thursday, only students who clear the first six semesters without any backlog will be eligible to continue in the Honours stream.
Under the new structure, all students will be directly enrolled in the four-year, eight-semester programme. The name of the branch or specialisation, such as Biotechnology or others, will be mentioned in academic records.
GTU stated that the syllabus and teaching scheme for the first six semesters will remain the same for all students, regardless of whether they later graduate with a regular BSc degree, BSc Honours or BSc Honours with Research qualification.
After the Semester 6 results are announced, students will have to choose whether they want to exit after three years with a regular degree, continue with the Honours programme, or pursue Honours with Research. The choice will have to be submitted through their respective institutes.
The university said a separate circular will soon be issued detailing the timeline and process for institutes to collect and upload students’ options through the GTU administration portal.
