To reduce congestion and improve traffic flow, the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has launched a project to upgrade 100 of the city’s most crowded junctions.
Traffic surveys are being carried out with help from leading educational institutions, while designs are finalised in coordination with the Traffic Police. So far, 37 junctions have been completed, work is ongoing at 12, and planning for the rest is in progress.
The project aims to make traffic movement smoother, cut down accidents, and improve efficiency on key roads.
AMC has also introduced ‘free left turn’ systems at 76 junctions to reduce waiting time at signals. Additionally, extensive thermoplastic road markings—such as centre lines, zebra crossings, and edge lines—have been completed over 1.19 lakh sq m.
Around 6,900 traffic signboards, including cautionary, mandatory, and directional signs, have been installed to boost road safety.
Overall, these steps are intended to create a safer, more efficient, and better-managed traffic system across the city.
