Electric bus services under the PM e-Bus Sewa are set to begin soon in Gandhinagar, with authorities offering free travel for the first 14 days to encourage commuters to use the service.
The decision was taken at the second board meeting of Gandhinagar Greenline Transport Service Limited, which is overseeing the project. The board has also approved fare structures and key operational policies.
The e-bus network will cover areas within the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation as well as nearby rural regions, aiming to improve connectivity for surrounding villages.
Officials said fares will be distance-based, ranging from ₹5 to ₹30. In the first phase, around 40 air-conditioned electric buses will operate across the city.
Several passenger-friendly features have been included. Children below five years can travel free, and each bus will have reserved seating for women and senior citizens. The buses will also be equipped with hydraulic platforms to assist persons with disabilities.
To promote digital payments, a prepaid smart card system will be introduced, offering up to a 10% fare discount for users.
Authorities said preparations are in the final stage, and the service is expected to start soon.
