College teachers in Ahmedabad have urged authorities to exempt them from duties related to Census 2027, saying the additional work would increase their already heavy academic burden and disrupt key educational activities.
In a representation submitted to the census directorate, faculty members said teachers in colleges affiliated with government universities are currently busy with exam-related responsibilities such as conducting tests, organising practicals, evaluating answer sheets and preparing mark sheets.
They stressed that these tasks must be completed on time as per the academic calendar. According to them, any diversion from academic work could affect the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020.
Teachers pointed out that with three years since the rollout of the policy, the current academic year is a crucial phase for its execution and for students. They also highlighted their role in the admission process, including through centralised systems like GCAS.
They warned that assigning census duties along with these responsibilities could lead to delays and inefficiencies in both academic and administrative work. The teaching community has appealed to authorities to relieve college faculty from census-related duties so that academic activities continue smoothly without disruption.
