Homebuyers of the Godrej Celesta project staged a protest in Ahmedabad’s Memnagar area on Saturday, alleging long delays and financial mismanagement by the developer. A large group gathered near the Godrej Altus site, raising slogans and demanding either possession of homes or refunds.
Launched in 2022, the project reportedly collected around ₹233 crore from nearly 1,169 investors. Developed by Godrej Properties in partnership with Shree Siddhi Group, it promised possession by 2025. However, by mid-2026, buyers claim that construction has not progressed, with not even a single floor completed.
Allegations of fund diversion
Protesters alleged that money collected for the Celesta project was diverted to other developments, including the nearby Altus project, where construction is progressing, while Celesta remains stalled.
Unfulfilled promises and complaints
Investors said that despite a December agreement to refund those opting out, no payments have been made so far. Frustrated buyers have submitted complaints to the Chief Minister’s Office and RERA, seeking intervention.
Voices of investors
One investor said they trusted the Godrej brand in 2022 despite the land being vacant, but in 2026 there is still no visible progress despite significant payments.
Another buyer, Hiral Pithwa, said they are paying monthly EMIs for a home that does not exist, alleging poor response from company staff when questioned.
Taruna Joshi from Patan said buyers were shown “big promises” but there is no development on the ground, urging others to be cautious before investing.
Another investor pointed out that RERA hearings have been ongoing for months, but no clear construction plan or timeline has been submitted by the developer.
A buyer added that after years of paying interest, even refund requests are no longer being accepted, with both developers blaming each other, leaving investors uncertain about accountability.
