A technical issue with the Goods and Services Tax (GST) portal has led to incorrect interest calculations for some taxpayers, prompting officials to urge users to double-check their GSTR-3B filings.
The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) revealed that the portal typically auto-calculates interest on delayed GSTR-3B submissions based on the tax liability reported. This interest amount appears in Table 5.1 of the following month’s GSTR-3B, where it’s collected alongside the return.
However, due to this glitch affecting calculations for February 2026 returns reflected in March filings, certain taxpayers might see inflated interest charges. “This could lead to confusion,” an official explained. “We recommend everyone review their figures.”
To assist affected users, the GST portal has launched a new feature allowing taxpayers to re-compute interest directly within Table 5.1 of their GSTR-3B forms. By using this option, individuals can adjust their calculations based on updated system parameters.
The corrected amounts will then be available in a system-generated PDF of the GSTR-3B on the GST portal. Officials are advising all users to download this updated document and manually adjust any discrepancies in their interest figures if necessary.
