Navsari: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) demonstrated its political dominance by winning 42 seats unopposed in the recent local elections across the Navsari district. This includes a complete sweep of the Gandevi Nagarpalika, where BJP secured all 21 seats without facing any competition.
The party’s victories extend beyond just Gandevi. They also claimed six seats in the district panchayat and 11 in the taluka panchayat, all without opposition. In a significant move, BJP won three seats in the newly formed Navsari Municipal Corporation (Mahanagarpalika), marking this as its first election since establishment.
Technical failures within the opposition played a crucial role in these uncontested wins. Reports indicate that 18 Congress candidates had their nomination forms rejected due to delays in submitting required mandates. This mismanagement has been a major factor enabling the BJP to take control before ballots were even cast.
BJP leaders are celebrating what they see as a clear indicator of their strength compared to weaker organizational efforts from rival parties like Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Tribal Affairs Minister Naresh Patel called this outcome a “historic event” for both Navsari and Gujarat, highlighting challenges faced by opposition parties in a predominantly tribal area.
With celebrations erupting among BJP workers throughout Navsari, party officials hinted that more uncontested seats might be on the horizon as final reviews of nominations continue.
