Legendary Indian playback singer Asha Bhosale passed away today at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai due to multi-organ failure, hospital authorities confirmed. Dr. Pratit Samdani from Breach Candy Hospital stated that she was under medical care for age-related complications before her demise.
Asha Bhosale, aged 92, was one of the most iconic and versatile voices in Indian music history, with a career spanning over seven decades. Born on September 8, 1933, she was the younger sister of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar and began her singing career at a very young age. Over the years, she recorded thousands of songs in multiple languages including Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, and several regional and international languages.
Known for her extraordinary range and adaptability, Bhosale became the voice behind countless Bollywood classics across genres—from classical and ghazals to cabaret and pop. She collaborated with some of the greatest music directors including O.P. Nayyar, R.D. Burman, and A.R. Rahman. Her timeless songs such as “Piya Tu Ab To Aaja,” “Dum Maro Dum,” and “Chura Liya Hai Tumne” remain evergreen favorites.
