A controversy has erupted in academic circles after threatening messages and serious allegations from a WhatsApp group of the Gujarat State Government College Teachers’ Association went viral, creating tension among faculty members.
The situation intensified as the association expelled two members, including a woman professor, and cancelled their membership. The group, used by members to discuss official matters such as transfers and administrative issues, became the centre of the dispute.
Sources said the conflict began during a discussion on transfers, when some members questioned government policies and procedures. Tensions rose after allegations of financial irregularities in the transfer process surfaced, with claims that postings were influenced by money and that repeated appeals to the government had gone unanswered. While some members raised concerns, others defended the government’s stance, leading to a heated exchange.
The row deepened further when a teacher outside the group reportedly filed a written complaint against the association’s office-bearers, accusing an executive committee member of using derogatory language. Viral messages also indicate that some members were insulted, with remarks targeting their mental stability and hinting at coercion and undue influence in transfer matters—raising serious questions about the association’s credibility.
