The Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC) has revealed the electricity tariff order for the fiscal year 2026-27, which kicks in on April 1, 2026. In a notable decision, the GERC has maintained current tariff rates for consumers of state-owned power distribution companies and Torrent Power.
According to a recent press release from the Commission, this decision follows petitions filed by distribution licensees to adjust revenue requirements and determine new tariffs. Public objections were solicited and hearings took place on February 24 and 25 before finalizing the changes.
For residents using state-owned discoms, there’s good news: the rebate for prepaid smart meters will increase from 2% to 3% on energy charges. This move aims to encourage more consumers to adopt smart metering technology.
The Time-of-Use (ToU) discount scheme is also expanding. Now, postpaid smart meter users can take advantage of ToU discounts previously limited to prepaid customers. The discount period has extended from four hours (11 AM to 3 PM) to six hours daily (11 AM to 5 PM), benefiting various consumer categories including electric vehicle charging stations and waterworks connections.
Torrent Power customers in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Surat will see some structural changes as well. The night concession will be replaced with a Solar Hours rebate offering a discount of 30 paise per unit during peak solar hours—specifically between 11 AM and 3 PM. Additionally, ToU charge timings have been revised for better alignment with energy supply needs.
In terms of green initiatives, the additional tariff for renewable energy has decreased from ₹0.90 per unit to ₹0.75 across all consumers—a significant reduction aimed at making green energy more accessible.
