A bomb threat email sent to the official account of Gujarat State Aviation Infrastructure Company Limited (GUJSAIL) triggered a security alert on Wednesday, prompting a multi-agency response and a detailed investigation before authorities declared it a hoax, police said.
According to a First Information Report (FIR) lodged with the Cyber Crime police station, the email was received around 8 am on March 25 on the official ID of the GUJSAIL director.
The complaint was filed by Nishthaben, a typist who has been working with the organisation for nine years. She said she came across the email when she reported for duty at around 9.30 am.
The email, sent from an ID identified as “[email protected]”, had the subject “blast” and contained threats of bomb explosions at multiple locations, including schools. It also referred to prominent political leaders and demanded the release of an individual, warning of imminent attacks aimed at creating panic.
Treating it as a serious threat, officials immediately escalated the matter as per standard protocol. The email was forwarded to senior officials, including the Deputy Collector and the organisation’s Chief Security Officer, following which multiple agencies were alerted.
Police said the Ahmedabad city control room was informed, and a Bomb Threat Assessment Committee meeting was held at Terminal-1 later in the day. Senior officials from airport security, aviation authorities and other agencies attended the meeting.
Specialised teams, including bomb detection and disposal squads, carried out a thorough search of the premises, but no explosives or suspicious items were found.
After a detailed assessment, officials declared the threat non-specific and said no credible danger was detected.
Based on the complaint, police have registered a case against an unidentified person for issuing criminal threats and spreading panic through electronic communication. Investigators are analysing technical evidence, including email headers and digital footprints, to trace the source of the message.
A screenshot of the threatening email has been submitted as evidence, and further investigation is underway.
