A minor fire broke out at the Shivranjani BRTS station in Ahmedabad on Wednesday morning, reportedly caused by a short circuit in an electrical line above the ticket counter, officials said.
The incident occurred around 11:45 am, when smoke was first seen coming from the ceiling of the bus station. The ticket operator on duty noticed the smoke and quickly alerted others, prompting an immediate evacuation of passengers present at the site.
The Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services was informed soon after, and three fire tenders were rushed to the spot. Around 10 fire personnel carried out the operation and brought the situation under control within about 30 minutes.
Fire officials confirmed that no casualties or injuries were reported. However, the area near the ticket counter sustained damage, particularly to electrical fittings and electronic equipment.
Preliminary findings suggest that the fire was triggered by a short circuit in the wiring above the ticketing area. Authorities added that a detailed investigation will be conducted to determine the exact cause and assess the extent of the damage.
Officials noted that timely detection of smoke and swift evacuation helped prevent a major mishap at the busy transit point.
