A significant fake ticket scheme was exposed on the Prayagraj Ahmedabad SF Express train when authorities detained 15 passengers during a routine check.
The incident unfolded on March 21, as the train pulled into Ahmedabad Railway Station. Ticket-checking staff were performing standard verification procedures when they noticed several passengers with tickets that had the same serial numbers.
Upon scanning QR codes and conducting technical verifications, officials confirmed the tickets were counterfeit. Investigators found that genuine tickets had been scanned and duplicated, with some originals allegedly generating up to ten copies sold illegally to unwitting travelers.
Preliminary inquiries indicate that this racket involved individuals working as facilitators for Automatic Ticket Vending Machines in Prayagraj. Authorities suspect these culprits purchased valid tickets, replicated them for resale, and later sought refunds on their original purchases—all while pocketing illicit profits.
The Railway Police are taking this matter seriously. They’ve launched an extensive investigation aimed at tracking down everyone connected to this operation. Further inquiries are ongoing.
