Mona Khandhar, the state’s spokesperson, reassured residents on Sunday that there’s no fuel shortage in Gujarat. Amid rising anxiety fueled by rumors, she emphasized that both petrol and diesel are available across the region.
“Petrol pumps have adequate stocks to meet demand,” Khandhar stated. She also noted that the state maintains significant buffer reserves, urging citizens to remain calm and avoid unnecessary panic buying. Reports of impending shortages are simply unfounded, she added.
In a firm stance against panic-induced behavior, Khandhar warned of strict legal repercussions for any dealer who keeps their pumps closed while having sufficient stock. “We won’t tolerate any inconvenience caused to consumers,” she said.
Sanjib Behera, Executive Director and State Nodal Officer of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), echoed her sentiments. He confirmed that all depots and terminals in Gujarat have ample fuel inventories ready for distribution whenever needed. This assurance aims to quell fears about potential supply disruptions.
The Petroleum Dealers Association of India supported these claims by announcing extended supply hours and increased stock movement to ensure steady availability at filling stations. They urged the public not to fall for misleading social media messages spreading false information about fuel shortages.
