Ahemdabad—The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Gujarat has named Achal Bakeri as its new Chairman and Naresh Patel as Vice Chairman for the term 2026–27. The announcement was made during CII Gujarat’s Annual Meeting held today, marking an important leadership shift at a pivotal time for the state’s economy.
The theme this year is “Virasat Se Vikas: Gujarat @ 2047,” which reflects the council’s focus on long-term growth. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel addressed attendees, emphasizing that Gujarat is on track to reach a $1 trillion economy by 2030. This goal aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for development.
“We’re committed to supporting industries in achieving this target,” Patel said. He highlighted the recent success of Micron Technology in attracting advanced sectors like semiconductors to Gujarat, showcasing how global confidence in India’s leadership can help realize ambitious objectives.
Gujarat contributes nearly 8% to India’s GDP despite having only about 5% of the country’s population, and officials aim to exceed the 10% mark soon. The Chief Minister pointed out that transparent policies have driven sustained economic growth in the state, mentioning a roadmap already underway aimed at Viksit Bharat by 2047.
Panel discussions during the meeting focused on various topics including “Gujarat’s Potential as a Global Capability Centre (GCC) Hub.” Experts noted that strong policy alignment and skilled labor make Gujarat attractive for GCC investments. Another panel discussed sustainability in exports, indicating that integrating ESG standards into business practices is crucial for competitiveness moving forward.
