Ahmedabad residents should brace for traffic disruptions as the Shahibaug Underbridge will undergo maintenance work starting March 19 until March 28, 2026. The Western Railway is set to strengthen both the upper and lower sections of the railway track, a necessary move to ensure safety and durability.
During this period, all entry and exit points at the underpass will be closed to vehicular traffic at specific times. Restrictions will kick in daily from 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm, and again from 12:00 midnight until 5:00 am. This means drivers need to plan their routes accordingly.
The authorities have proposed several alternative routes to help manage traffic flow during these closures:
- From Delhi Darwaza/Subhash Bridge towards Airport-Gandhinagar: Vehicles can navigate via the riverfront route near Subhash Bridge, proceeding along the riverfront road to Dafnala before heading toward their destinations.
- From Airport-Gandhinagar towards city areas: Commuters can take the riverfront road and reconnect with key city routes. Those heading to Asarwa, Girdharnagar, Delhi Darwaza, or Kalupur should use Shahibaug main roads through Mahapragyaji Bridge.
- From Girdharnagar-Asarwa towards Airport-Gandhinagar: Drivers can use Shahibaug, Anekshi, Gayatri Mandir, Army Cantonment, Airport Road, and Indira Bridge for access.
The officials are urging all commuters to adhere strictly to these diversion routes. Planning ahead could save a lot of hassle during this maintenance period. As always, keeping an eye on updates will help minimize inconvenience.
