The Ahmedabad Police have taken action against an 18-year-old for allegedly selling ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final tickets at inflated prices. The incident unfolded near the Narendra Modi Stadium in Chandkheda, just days before the much-anticipated India–New Zealand clash on March 8.
Identified as Vansh Hiralkumar Shah from Vasna, the accused was apprehended during a late-night operation on March 6. Following orders from senior officers aimed at tackling black market ticket sales, a team from the Local Crime Branch (LCB) conducted a raid.
According to police constable Raunakkumar Jayarambhai, who filed the FIR, officers were conducting patrols around Chandkheda Metro Station when they got a tip-off about suspicious activity. An informant reported that someone in a black T-shirt and white jeans was offering tickets for prices well above their official rates.
The police quickly headed to Gate No. 1 of the stadium and spotted Shah. One officer posed as a buyer and asked about tickets for the upcoming match. Shah allegedly offered two tickets for ₹22,000—far exceeding their official printed price of ₹2,000 each.
Upon request, he produced the tickets but was soon confronted by law enforcement. A search revealed two tickets in his possession; however, he couldn’t provide any authorization to sell them.
The police seized the tickets and served Shah with notice before letting him go after initial proceedings. Meanwhile, investigators continue to assess whether further charges are warranted regarding his actions.
