The recently launched ‘Bharat Taxi’ service is expected to begin operations at four airports in Gujarat shortly. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Bharat Taxi to roll out services at more than nine airports across the country, including Surat, Rajkot, Vadodara and Bhuj.
Under this new transport model, drivers — known as ‘Sarthi’ — are given greater ownership rights compared to large private cab platforms. Passengers, meanwhile, are expected to benefit from transparent pricing and affordable fares.
The MoU between AAI and Bharat Taxi, operated by Sahakar Taxi Co-op. Ltd., also covers airports in Pune, Aurangabad, Varanasi, Kanpur, Prayagraj and Agra. Officials said the initiative aims to enhance passenger facilities and strengthen the cooperative sector.
Sources at Surat Airport said they have received information about the agreement, though an official communication is still awaited. However, Bharat Taxi services are likely to start at the airport in the near future.
