Gandhinagar: The Gujarat Legislative Assembly is set to convene for its Budget Session starting on February 16, 2026, marking a pivotal moment in the state’s fiscal planning. The Assembly Secretariat has released a provisional timetable outlining the key events of the session.
The session will kick off with a motion of thanks to the Governor’s address, followed by obituary references and various government business. Detailed discussions regarding the Governor’s address are slated for February 19, 20, and 23, allowing legislators to delve into the priorities laid out by the state’s leadership.
One of the central highlights will be the presentation of the state budget for the 2026–27 fiscal year by Finance Minister Kanu Desai on February 18. This presentation is expected to set the tone for financial allocations and policy direction in the coming year.
Additionally, the Assembly will address supplementary expenditure for the fiscal year 2025–26, alongside statements on excess expenditure from previous years, specifically 2011–12 and 2018–19. The general discussion on the budget will commence on February 25 and is scheduled to run until March 5.
The timetable indicates a busy March, with a focus on demands for grants. Discussions and voting on these matters will take place over a twelve-day period from March 6 to March 23. Legislators will also consider various government and non-government bills and resolutions throughout the session.
During this period, members of the Assembly will observe several holidays, including Dhuleti on March 4 and Cheti Chand on March 19, with regular breaks on Saturdays and Sundays, notwithstanding a few designated working Saturdays. The session is expected to wrap up on March 25, 2026, setting the stage for the state’s financial landscape in the upcoming year.
