Government’s Bold Move
The state government has just issued Essentiality Certificates for proposed colleges in Ahmedabad, Mehsana, and Surat. This is a huge leap toward getting the green light from the National Medical Council (NMC).
Your Future Doctors Are Here!
Imagine the possibilities! Two of these new institutions will be self-financed: one in Ahmedabad and another in Mehsana. The cherry on top? A third college will be established within the ESIC Hospital in Surat, funded by the central government. Once inspections are done and approvals are granted, these schools could welcome students as early as the next academic session!
Strengthening Gujarat’s Medical Hub
What does this mean for Gujarat? Currently, there are six medical colleges run by the Directorate of Medical Education and Research and 13 under the Gujarat Medical Education and Research Society. Adding three more institutions solidifies Gujarat’s position as a key player in medical education!

With the Ahmedabad college set to be named Sardar Patel Medical College and Research Centre, the Mehsana college dubbed Shri Satsangi Medical College and Research Centre, and the Surat facility operating from the ESIC Hospital, the landscape of medical training is about to change dramatically.
Currently, Gujarat boasts about 43 medical colleges, offering nearly 6,500 MBBS seats. But with these new additions, the future looks brighter than ever for aspiring medical professionals!
