The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and Bopal police have taken action against the owner of a pet Labrador following an attack on a woman at a residential complex in Shilaj earlier this week.
Officials said the incident took place on January 20 around 1 pm at Kaveri Sangam Flats near Shilaj Char Rasta on the SP Ring Road. The white Labrador, kept in Flat C/203, allegedly attacked the woman while it was being taken down the staircase on a leash by the owner’s daughter.
After the incident, a team from the AMC’s CNCD Department — comprising a veterinary doctor, sanitary inspector and dog catcher — carried out an inspection at the site on January 22. The dog was found to be vaccinated and registered with the AMC since May 26 in the name of Shivam Bharatkumar Suthar.
However, officials said negligence in handling the pet in common areas led to the attack. Based on this, the veterinary officer and sanitary inspector, along with police personnel, filed an online complaint at the Bopal Police Station.
In a separate complaint, the injured woman’s husband, Jaswantbhai Patel, also approached the police seeking legal action against the dog owner. Following the complaints, Bopal police registered a case related to the January 20 incident and began further investigation.
As a precautionary measure, the Labrador has been seized and shifted to the AMC’s municipal dog shelter to prevent any further incidents. Authorities said legal proceedings against the pet owner are underway in coordination with the municipal corporation.
