Travelers using the Ahmedabad–Vadodara Expressway are likely to face delays for the next three months as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has begun resurfacing work on a 39-km stretch between the two cities.
After the monsoon, several commuters complained about potholes and uneven road conditions. An NHAI survey also found that parts of the expressway were not meeting required standards, prompting the repair and resurfacing work on damaged sections.
The work is expected to continue till April, during which traffic movement may slow down. Nearly 25,000 vehicles use the expressway daily, and officials said the travel time between Vadodara and Ahmedabad could increase to around two hours. Motorists have been advised to start their journeys at least 30 minutes earlier than usual.
The resurfacing is being carried out using heavy machinery with the help of around 40 to 50 workers. To ensure traffic flow, repairs will be undertaken one lane at a time.
NHAI has urged regular commuters to plan their trips in advance, noting that while temporary delays are expected, the work will result in a safer and smoother road once completed.
