The Gujarat government has allotted 11.25 hectares of land for a new campus of the Sardar Patel Institute of Public Administration (SPIPA) in Gandhinagar. The state Cabinet recently approved the land allocation for the project.
The upcoming campus, to be developed at Lekawada—an area known for its cluster of educational institutions—will house a dedicated study centre for aspirants preparing for administrative examinations, including the UPSC. It is envisioned as a state-of-the-art facility that will also serve as a hub for conferences, training programmes and capacity-building initiatives.
Currently, SPIPA operates from its main campus in Ahmedabad’s Satellite area, a building constructed in 1972 that is limited by space and lacks modern infrastructure. The new Gandhinagar campus is expected to address these constraints and significantly expand training capacity.
The proposed facility will include residential and sports amenities along with modern academic infrastructure such as a large library, computer centre, assembly halls, seminar rooms and recreational spaces. Officials said the campus will place Gujarat on par with other states that have large, integrated administrative training centres.
The Roads and Buildings Department has allotted the land—located on the eastern side of Lekawada Road—free of cost. SPIPA has been asked to submit building plans within six months and complete construction within two years thereafter.
Hareet Shukla, Principal Secretary, General Administration Department, said the campus falls within an educational zone that houses several national and international institutions, allowing experts from these centres to participate in SPIPA’s training programmes.
Last year, SPIPA inaugurated a separate campus in Gandhinagar for Gujarat Public Service Commission aspirants. Spread over 7,563 square metres and built at a cost of about Rs 36 crore, the facility is currently operated by SPIPA.
SPIPA’s main campus remains in Ahmedabad, with regional training centres in Gandhinagar, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot and Mehsana. The institute trains government employees and civil service aspirants and promotes good governance through skill development and research across Gujarat.
