A day after Uttarayan celebrations, teams of the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) were deployed across Ahmedabad to clean public places and remove kites, strings and other festival-related waste from roads.
From early morning, civic workers were seen clearing tangled kite strings, paper waste and debris from major roads, residential areas and public squares to ensure smooth traffic flow and pedestrian safety. Special focus was given to flyovers, junctions and busy stretches, where nylon-coated strings pose a serious risk, especially to two-wheeler riders.
Officials said the post-festival clean-up is part of AMC’s standard procedure after major public events. “Our teams were mobilised immediately after the celebrations to restore normal conditions and prevent accidents caused by leftover kite strings,” an AMC official said.
In addition to manual cleaning, mechanised sweepers were deployed in several parts of the city. The civic body said the drive will continue for the next few days to ensure all public spaces are cleared and sanitation levels return to normal.
AMC also urged residents to dispose of kite-related waste responsibly and cooperate with civic teams to keep the city clean and safe after the festival.
