A 30-year-old tenant has been booked for arson and criminal intimidation after allegedly setting two parked scooters on fire outside a residential house in Madhupura, Ahmedabad, early Friday morning.
The accused, identified as Vasu Jodharamji, a casual labourer from Rajasthan’s Sanchor taluka, was living on rent on the first floor of the complainant’s house. Police said he allegedly assaulted his woman landlord, threatened to kill her and her 18-year-old son, and later torched her scooter following a personal dispute.
According to Madhupura police, the incident took place around 1 am on January 9 at Marwari’s Chali in the Shahpur area. The complainant, Ramilaben Parshottambhai (45), who lives with her son and works in odd jobs, said the accused had been her tenant since 2023. Tensions reportedly arose after she objected to his behaviour.
On the night of the incident, the accused allegedly came to the house and demanded entry. When Ramilaben refused to open the door, he reportedly threatened to kill her and her son and warned that he would set her scooter on fire.
Soon after, flames were spotted outside the house. Police said the accused allegedly poured a flammable liquid on Ramilaben’s Suzuki Access 125 scooter and set it ablaze. The fire spread to a Honda Activa belonging to another tenant, Kishore Gulabhai, which was parked nearby.
Neighbours rushed in and managed to put out the fire, but both scooters were damaged. The accused is said to have fled the scene after the incident.
Based on the complaint, Madhupura police have registered a case and are searching for the accused.
