After the recent controversy surrounding cracks in Ahmedabad’s Subhash Bridge, concerns are now emerging over the safety of another key structure in the city.
The 14-year-old Maharshi Dadhichi Overbridge, which connects the Vadaj area to Dudheshwar in the eastern part of Ahmedabad, has reportedly shown signs of structural deterioration.
In several sections of the bridge, the road surface has broken, exposing iron reinforcement rods and raising serious safety concerns.
Questions over AMC inspection and consultant’s credibility
Reports indicate that the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) carried out a technical inspection of all city bridges just five months ago.
The apparent failure to detect such damage has sparked serious questions about the effectiveness and reliability of the consultant agency responsible for the inspection.
Motorists report unusual vibrations
Local commuters claim that the bridge vibrates noticeably whenever heavy vehicles pass over it.
Combined with exposed rods and multiple potholes scattered across the surface, the risk of accidents has become a growing concern.
With the Subhash Bridge currently closed for repairs, a significant portion of city traffic has been diverted to the Dadhichi Overbridge.
More than one lakh motorists are estimated to use this bridge daily, further increasing the urgency of the situation.
If timely repairs are not undertaken, the condition of the bridge could lead to serious consequences.
It now remains to be seen whether the authorities will act promptly to address these safety concerns.
