A team from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at GLS University has won the gold medal at the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2025, held in Chennai, and secured a cash prize of 1.5 lakh for their innovative technological solution.
The winning project addressed a real-world coastal research problem posed by the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) and the National Centre for Coastal Research (NCCR). The students developed Coast Scan, a handheld digital laboratory designed to revolutionise coastal monitoring by replacing slow, manual sediment analysis with an instant and automated scanning system.
