With the New Year just days away, curiosity is growing about what the future may hold. As discussions around the year 2026 intensify worldwide, the centuries-old prophecies of French seer Nostradamus have once again captured public attention.
At a time when the world is already grappling with issues such as the Russia-Ukraine war, inflation and rising food prices, Nostradamus’ 500-year-old writings are going viral on social media. Many believe his predictions point to a period of severe global crisis. Here is a look at what Nostradamus is believed to have foretold for 2026.
Possibility of World War III
According to interpretations of his prophecies, a Third World War could begin around mid-2026. The conflict is said to be extremely destructive, driven by religious and nationalist tensions—conditions that some believe are already visible in parts of the world.
Major Naval Conflict
Nostradamus is also believed to have warned of a major maritime disaster or naval war. His verses suggest that the sinking of a large ship or a serious naval confrontation could dramatically impact global politics, possibly due to a single nation’s miscalculation.
Global Economic Crisis
Another prediction points to a severe economic downturn affecting major powers such as the US and the UK. This crisis could fuel inflation, social unrest and even lead to the fall of prominent world leaders.
Severe Natural Disasters
Nostradamus’ writings are interpreted as warning of extreme climate events in 2026. Intense heat could turn fertile land into deserts, followed by sudden heavy rainfall and catastrophic flooding, causing widespread environmental and human devastation.
Growing Power of Artificial Intelligence
One prophecy suggests that by 2026, Artificial Intelligence may move beyond an advisory role to become a decision-maker, with governments and systems increasingly run by AI.
Threat of a Nuclear Attack
Another ominous prediction hints at preparations for a nuclear attack and a setback to human space missions. References to darkness on Mars are being linked by some to the collapse of space programmes.
Rising Wheat and Grain Prices
Nostradamus is also believed to have foreseen a sharp rise in global grain prices. Wheat prices peaked in 2022, and many online users are now connecting this trend to his prophecy, fearing continued food inflation, especially in developing nations.
While these predictions are based on interpretations of vague verses and remain unverified, they continue to spark debate and concern as 2026 draws closer.
