Delivery workers linked to major e-commerce and food delivery platforms will stage a two-hour nationwide strike on December 31, New Year’s Eve, to protest what they say are worsening working conditions, a workers’ body said on Friday.
Workers associated with platforms such as Swiggy, Zomato, Zepto, Blinkit, Amazon and Flipkart are expected to stop work during the protest period. The planned strike comes days after a flash protest on Christmas Day, when around 40,000 delivery riders across the country took part in bike rallies and work stoppages.
The Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union said the all-India protest aims to draw attention to the lack of fair wages, safe working conditions, dignity at work and social security benefits for delivery workers.
