Ahead of the Kankaria Carnival scheduled from December 25 to 31, the Ahmedabad City Police have announced multiple traffic restrictions to maintain smooth traffic flow and ensure public safety.
No Parking, No Stopping Zones
Areas under the limits of Kagadapith and Maninagar police stations around Kankaria Lake have been declared No Parking, No Stopping and No U-Turn zones during the festival.
Parking will be allowed only at designated parking locations. Parking anywhere else around the lake will be strictly prohibited.
Restrictions on Circular Road
On the circular route around Kankaria Lake—from Kankaria Chowki via Railway Yard, Khokhra Bridge, Dedki Garden, Siddhi Vinayak Hospital crossroads, Machhi Pir crossroads, Pushpakunj Circle, Apsara Cinema crossroads, Football crossroads, Lohana Mahajanwadi and back to Kankaria Chowki—only two-wheelers will be permitted to stop. All other vehicles will not be allowed to halt on this stretch.
No U-Turn Allowed
Although the road around the lake is two-lane, U-turns will not be permitted at any point. The entire stretch has been declared a No U-Turn zone.
Restrictions on Goods and Passenger Vehicles
Between 8 am and 1 am, goods vehicles and passenger vehicles already restricted under existing notifications will not be allowed on key routes leading to Kankaria. These include:
- Danilimda crossroads via Shah Alam
- Chandola Police Chowki crossroads via Shah Alam
- Maninagar railway station via Maninagar and Rambagh crossroads
- Kagadapith T-point via Vanijya Bhavan
- Raipur Darwaza via Big Bazaar and Parsi Agiary crossroads
- Guruji Bridge via Avkar Hall crossroads, Hirabhai Tower and Bhairavnath crossroads
Exemptions
Vehicles linked to the Carnival, government vehicles on duty, fire brigade, ambulances and emergency services are exempt from these restrictions.
The orders have been issued by Ahmedabad Police Commissioner G S Malik and will remain in force from December 25 to 31.
