The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) has announced an additional one hour of extra time for differently abled students appearing for the Class 10 and 12 board examinations. Earlier, such students were given 30 minutes of additional time. The Board has now decided to extend this by another 30 minutes.
According to a circular issued by the Board, disabled students will be granted compensatory time at the rate of 20 minutes for every hour of the question paper. This means 20 minutes for a one-hour paper, 40 minutes for a two-hour paper and 60 minutes for a three-hour paper. This facility will be available irrespective of whether the student uses a scribe or not.
The Board has also introduced changes in practical examinations. For Class 12 Science, MCQ-based question papers carrying the same marks will be provided in place of experimental work. Similarly, in Class 11 Science, MCQ-based papers will replace experimental work at the school level.
Students opting for MCQ-based papers instead of practical examinations must submit a request to the principal and the District Education Officer (DEO) at least 15 days before the examination.
