A major accident was reported in the Magdalla sea area of Surat when a boat carrying coal capsized while approaching the jetty, triggering panic in the area. Following the incident, operations at Magdalla Jetty were temporarily suspended.
Preliminary information suggests that the boat lost balance during the unloading process at the jetty, causing it to overturn in the middle of the sea. As a result, several tonnes of coal and other valuable cargo sank into the seawater, raising concerns of heavy financial losses.
All workers rescued
Fortunately, all workers and passengers on board were rescued safely. Boat operators and people present nearby rushed to the spot and promptly evacuated everyone, preventing any loss of life. After the incident, jetty operations were halted for some time. At present, recovery work and investigations are underway to retrieve the sunken boat and cargo.
