A truck carrying a large quantity of liquor overturned near Sanand in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, spilling hundreds of bottles onto the road and briefly attracting locals before police stepped in.
According to police, the accident took place on Muni Ashram Road when a Rajasthan-registered truck travelling from Kadi to Sanand lost control while passing over a newly built road hump. The truck overturned, causing liquor bottles to scatter across the roadway.
Eyewitnesses said several people from nearby areas rushed to the spot and began collecting the bottles. Police were alerted soon after and reached the scene, dispersed the crowd and seized the liquor along with the vehicle.
A senior police official confirmed the incident, saying a team was immediately sent to the location after receiving information about the overturned truck. “We are checking the source of the liquor and its destination. Further investigation is underway,” the official said.
Police are counting and documenting the seized bottles and have begun the process of registering a case under relevant legal provisions. Efforts are also on to identify those involved in transporting the liquor.
Traffic on the road was affected for a short while but was restored after the truck was removed and the area cleared, police said.
