The Ahmedabad city Special Operations Group (SOG), along with the Food Department, conducted surprise inspections at pan parlours across the city on Tuesday to check the sale of prohibited and potentially intoxicating substances, including ‘gogo paper’ used for rolling tobacco, officials said.
During the joint drive, teams checked pan stalls for compliance with food safety regulations and the presence of banned items. Several establishments were found violating prescribed norms, following which legal action was initiated against their operators.
Officials said pan parlours flouting food safety rules were sealed on the spot under relevant legal provisions. Among those sealed was Raja Pan Parlour at Ganesh Glory in the Jagatpur area.
In a separate inspection during the same drive, Vishal Pan Parlour at Swarnim Complex in Chharodi, owned by Vishal Shyamsundar Sharma, was checked and proceedings were initiated after violations were detected.
An SOG officer said the drive aimed to curb the illegal sale of intoxicating substances and ensure strict adherence to food safety laws, adding that similar checks will continue in other parts of the city. Authorities have warned pan parlour operators to comply with regulations or face stringent action.
