The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, has been appointed to conduct economic, social and environmental impact assessment studies for major multi-sport events in India, including the 2030 Commonwealth Games, Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya informed Parliament on Monday.
Mandaviya was responding to questions from three MPs on preparations for the 2030 Games, particularly on whether social and environmental impact assessments have been carried out for the planned infrastructure expansion in Ahmedabad, the proposed host city. India is also bidding to host the 2036 Olympic Games in Ahmedabad.
“The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad has been appointed by the Gujarat Sports Infrastructure Development Company Limited to undertake economic, social and environmental impact assessment studies for multi-sporting events,” the minister said.
On whether the government has finalised the estimated cost of hosting the Commonwealth Games, Mandaviya stated that the host state for CWG 2030 and the Indian Olympic Association have conducted detailed assessments of sports infrastructure, facilities, accommodation and other requirements necessary for the successful आयोजन of the Games.
