Passport applicants are currently facing a waiting period of 12 days at the Regional Passport Office (RPO) in Ahmedabad, while the wait extends to 18 days in Surat.
In Ahmedabad, the tatkal waiting period has steadily increased over the past two years, rising from two days in 2023 to four days in 2024 and five days in 2025. For normal passport applications, the waiting period has improved, dropping from 20 days in 2023 to 14 days in 2024.
In Surat, the waiting time for normal passport services has seen a slight reduction, decreasing from 19 days in 2023 and 2024 to 18 days in 2025. However, tatkal applicants now face a longer wait of five days, compared to just one day earlier.
Statewide, 13 passport applications in Gujarat have police verification pending for over a month. By contrast, Maharashtra reports a much larger backlog, with about 1.37 lakh applications awaiting police verification for more than a month.
Among passport offices nationwide, the shortest waiting periods for normal passports are reported in Goa (4 days), Cochin and Kozhikode (5 days each), Srinagar (6 days), and Tiruchirappalli and Shimla (8 days).
