Mehsana couple with three-year-old daughter duped while travelling to Portugal via Dubai
What began as a hopeful journey to start a new life in Portugal has turned into a nightmare for a couple from Badalpur village near Meu in Mehsana. Kismatsinh Chavda, his wife Hina and their three-year-old daughter Devanshi were allegedly taken to Libya and held hostage after being deceived during their travel via Dubai. The abductors have reportedly demanded a ransom of over ₹1 crore for their release.
The family had left India on November 29 and was scheduled to travel from Dubai to Portugal on December 1. Instead, they were allegedly diverted to Libya, where they were taken captive. Distressed and helpless, the relatives of the hostages have approached the Mehsana Collector, seeking urgent assistance for their safe release.
Separated and tortured
According to information received, the family has been separated while in captivity in Libya. On December 4, the kidnappers allegedly demanded USD 54,000, and further ransom calls seeking around ₹1 crore have been received from different numbers.
An audio message purportedly sent by Kismatsinh has also surfaced, in which he claims that he is being tortured, officials said. The incident has left the family in deep fear and anxiety, as efforts continue to secure the release of the hostages.
